Doorman. A job that hardly exists in Europe anymore. Not a hotel doorman or a residential doorman, but a doorman of a rental building, or rather a watchman. This job is very common in Latin America, especially in Brazil. Accustomed to an atmosphere of insecurity, the Brazilian middle class isolates itself in golden prisons. Where some people use a simple key or code at the bottom of a building, they pay people to make sure their front door is locked every time they pass. Emblematic of the socio-economic situation of this country, cheap labor multiplies service jobs like this one. Representative of this kind of profession, I wanted to present the doormen of the "Copacabana" neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro. Cloistered behind bars, a desk, they wait. 2011.

Portier.
